In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God. Oh, wait a minute. Somebody else wrote that book. Let me begin again.
In my world, June’s theme is “Sing Your Song”. Inspired by Karen Carpenter and Deepak Chopra, who showed me, in different ways, how to live by heart and love by truth.
This June is no different. It’s a celebratory month for the rituals of life I’ve known. Growing up in south-eastern Saskatchewan’s wheat farm belt before potash mines and odd experiments dotted its landscape, June’s Saskatchewan was the month when everything came back to Life, ushering in summer bounty.
June signifies peace. June signifies an end to quadruple duty - chores - school- chores-homework-divine rest. June means the beginning of new growth. June promises a fall bounty. June means graduations, celebrations, endings, and new beginnings.
June means life renewed.
Those days no longer exist. Like my ancestors’ heritage lands. Gone. Like languages, peoples, cultures, species. Everything must change.
The goodness of their roots remains. That is what I choose to remember. Living by heart provides the spaciousness to remember one’s roots, honor one’s ancestors, in loving kindness and with truthfulness. While being consciously in tune to one’s own time. To heed the calling of Life giving birth to itself with every new moon, a chance to “hilo”, to begin again. Fresh. Present. Grateful.
June is also the time of one of Nature’s important cyclical markers - the Solstice. A time when the sun seems to “stand still”. When the Light be its Brightest.
To mark this transition, in this year 2024, when over half the world’s populations engages in a kind of Magna Carta and chooses their leaders through voting, I am going deep into preparation to “stand still” with the Sun.
For me, voting, like that old Magna Carta document, is an act of self-realization and self-accountability. A cherished responsibility. One we practice daily. Yet only exercise as a unified whole at a set time and date shared and known to all. Like today’s New Moon in Gemini, it’s coming is known, it’s outcomes to the majority of energy, a delicious mystery.
Last week was the final date to get your name on a ballot if you chose to be seen as a social leader. While our States prescribe different dates/times for local elections, our presidential elections are always in November, every four years, on the leap year. The make-up of Washington DC is a stellar place of sacred geometry and the seat of our federal government - of the People, by the People, for the People. An ideal yet to be known, in its purest intentions. One I love and choose to practice daily.
I invite you to take some time today in quiet contemplation. Releasing from your heart any heaviness or burdens it may have accumulated. Preparing a new upper room for the freshness a new moon offers freely, every time.
This airy Gemini of June’s jubilation time is quick. So, I intend to write out a list of all the negative propensities I’ve consciously or unconsciously held onto. I intend to release them all from my heart. I love and choose to make that upper room free and clear. This month of June may the garden of my heart bloom to receive all the positive qualities my ancestors consistently remind me to cultivate and the hopefulness deserving of future generations to come.
Season 33 also begins June 11. A whole lot of goodness to assist our highest guidance to create this new beginning in unity, clarity, honor, integrity, peace, harmony, laughter, and love.
You come too!
“May the sound of this bell penetrate deep into the cosmos
Even in the darkest spots
Living beings are able to hear it clearly
So that all suffering in them cease
Understanding comes to their heart
And they transcend the path of sorrow and death.
The universal dharma door is already open
The sound of the rising tide is heard clearly
The miracle happens
A beautiful child appears in the heart of a lotus flower
One single drop of this compassionate water
Is enough to bring back the refreshing spring to our mountains and rivers.
Listening to the bell
I feel the afflictions in me begin to dissolve
My mind calm
My body relax
A smile is born on my lips
Following the sound of the bell
My breath brings me back to the safe island of mindfulness
In the garden of my heart
The flowers of peace bloom beautifully.
” The Great Bell Chant, Thich Naht Hanh
